Welcome to the EMPOWER Lab
helmed by Asst Prof SinHui Chong and her research team

EMPOWER is short for Employee Occupational Wellness Research.
Applying theories from psychology, organizational behavior, and broad social science fields, our lab addresses questions about how individuals juggle their professional and personal demands to optimize their occupational motivation and well-being. We also study how structural characteristics such as social class and gender, and relational factors such as spousal or coworker ties, affect these processes of work-life management and occupational decisions. Our proficiency in diverse methodologies, including experience-sampling surveys, lagged-wave field surveys, lab experiments, interviews, and focus group discussions, enables us to address these research questions comprehensively.
Ultimately, we aspire to use our research findings to empower employees to thrive in multiple life domains, achieving equilibrium for their lives. We also seek to collaborate with industrial partners to establish best family-friendly HR practices and to foster win-win cultures for employee well-being and business interests.
